Event Description:

A beginners 8 mile circular day walk from the cheshire countryside to the wider fringes of the Peak District National Park. 

From Bollington there's a short, stiff ascent to the monument of White Nancy, which on a clear day gives excellent views of Manchester, Liverpool, Cheshire, Snowdonia and Shining Tor. We then descend into the pretty village of Rainow before taking a quiet lane along the Dean Valley to Lamaload Reservoir. We then climb again before another descent back into Rainow. From there we cross a series of fields and end up back at the start point.

The walk takes in a variety of landscapes including hills, fields, woods, a reservoir, a lake and a small village and the folly of White Nancy. After there is the option of going to the pub for those who want to.
The folly we will be visiting, White Nancy, was actually built as a summer house by the Gaskell family, who lived at Ingersley Hall, in about 1815. It is stone built with external rendering and regularly painted white in order to maintain its visibility. It is thought that it may have been built at that time to commemorate the battle of Waterloo. Internally there is a seat all round the wall with a large table in the centre. The table is circular, cut from a single piece of stone. Unfortunately the entrance has since been bricked up and you can no longer gain access.

Walk Level:

Beginners: These events are, on average, under 7 miles and very easy to navigate along paths and tracks. There could be small obstacles such as gates and stiles and the route could involve crossing open farmland. However the terrain should be easy under foot with trainers or walking boots (good condition and good tread) being suitable.  Please note that if you wear trainers they are not likely to be waterproof and the chances are you will have wet feet by the end of the walk.

Fully Guided:

This event is fully guided meaning there is a LargeOutdoors leader with you throughout the day.  Everyone of our leaders is experienced in leading walks across all sorts of terrain along with being first aid qualified. As a group we will carry first aid kits, emergency shelters and any additional group safety equipment deemed necessary for this event.  However, you are also responsible for ensuring your own safety and carrying all essential and sometimes compulsory safety equipment.  See our kit lists further down on the event details for more information.

Kit Lists:

Knowing what kit to have with you is essential for having a safe trip with LargeOutdoors.  With this in mind we have compiled some kit lists to offer you some help and advice on what to pack.

If you are new to LargeOutdoors and outdoor pursuits in general please do not feel that you have to go out and purchase all of the kit on the list.  You would be better off attending some events and gaining the experience and talking to other members about what kind of kit you should purchase.  Then slowly purchase the kit that suits your preferred event/s, skills, body and budget. 

As a guide we have listed compulsory equipment that your leader will insist that you have before you continue with the activity below.  However you should always attempt to bring all items with you including warm clothes, hats and gloves etc.

Compulsory Kit: There is no compulsory kit for this event, however please see out Kit lists for a list of what you should be bringing with you.  In extreme weather the leader may refuse you entry to the event if you have not arrived with suitable clothing and equipment, this is for your own safety.

The majority of our locations are remote and far from local shops, the below information is provided as a guide to what food and drink you should think about bringing with you.

Packed Lunch: For each day walk you will need to supply your own packed lunch.  Please also remember to bring water and fluids for the walk.

Special Instructions: We meet at the point where Redway Lane becomes Windmill Lane. The road doubles back on itself at this point.
