Event Description:

Tackle the classic High Peak circuit: The Edale Skyline.

We shall take in one long day of trekking along the Roman Roads, gritstone edges and classic ridges of the Vale of Edale. Be ready for a challenge - and also be ready for a beautiful walk through breathtaking scenery. We shall climb up from Hope, over Win Hill Pike, Kinder Scout, Mam Tor and Lose Hill, not dipping below 1,000ft until our return to Hope.

Our route will involve a distance of approximately 18 miles, starting early to bag the highlights of the Dark Peak.

Our trek starts and ends in the village of Hope, gateway to the Vale of Edale. From here we trek via Win Hill Pike to Kinder Scout's precipitous gritsone edges, heading west with views of Edale and the forbidding interior of the Kinder plateau. After the spectacular, wind-sculpted Woolpacks we briefly join the Pennine Way as we round the horseshoe towards Mam Tor's iron age settlement. Finally, we traverse the Peak District's finest ridge to Lose Hill before descending from the High Peak back to the comfort of Hope - where a well-earned drink awaits.

Walk Level:

Intermediate: Although more challenging than our beginners walks these walks are suitable for most people. We will be covering a distance of between 7 to 10 miles using well marked routes and footpaths. Typically we will be crossing fields, open moor land and the ground maybe slippery under foot and muddy. We will have to negotiate stiles and small obstructions all of which are achievable with care.  Sturdy suitable footwear is highly recommended for this walk, if in doubt about your footwear please contact the LargeOutdoors office for more advice.

Difficult: With distances of between 6 to 15 miles these walks are difficult due to the terrain and type of ground we will be covering.  With occasional scrambles and rarely on footpaths you will likely be walking across open moorland, through heather and scrub.  These walks are often at heights in excess of 750m where the weather can change quickly.  On these walks walking boots are essential along with suitable mountain clothing.  If you'd like to discuss clothing or any concerns you might have please contact the LargeOutdoors office.

Please note that the weather can affect the terrain under foot and it is essential that you check the weather forecast on the day and wear appropriate clothing.  We recommend that you check out a specific mountain weather service such The Met Office, Mountain Weather Forecast.

Kit Lists:

Knowing what kit to have with you is essential for having a safe trip with LargeOutdoors.  With this in mind we have compiled some kit lists to offer you some help and advice on what to pack.

If you are new to LargeOutdoors and outdoor pursuits in general please do not feel that you have to go out and purchase all of the kit on the list.  You would be better off attending some events and gaining the experience and talking to other members about what kind of kit you should purchase.  Then slowly purchase the kit that suits your preferred event/s, skills, body and budget.

As a guide we have listed compulsory equipment that your leader will insist that you have before you continue with the activity below.  However you should always attempt to bring all items with you including warm clothes, hats and gloves etc.

Compulsory Kit: In addition to your personal kit you will need to carry a survival bag and a whistle on this walk.  These are compulsory, if you do not have either of these items with you, we will be unable to allow you to continue on the walk.  They can be purchased as part of the registration process below and we will bring them to the event for you.  After the event they are yours to take them home for your own personal use.
