Event Brief:
This lovely day walk will take in the Lathkill Dale Nature Reserve, the lovely village of Youlgreave and some stunning views along the famous Limestone Way. Before we arrive at the pre-historic stone cirlce of the "Nine Ladies Stone Circle". From here we head across Stanton Moor and back for a well deserved pint or glass of wine.
The Nine Ladies Stones:
A small early Bronze Age stone circle traditionally believed to depict nine ladies turned to stone as a penalty for dancing on Sunday. It is part of a complex of prehistoric circles and standing stones on Stanton Moor.
Walk Level:
Intermediate: Although more challenging than our beginners walks these walks are suitable for most people. We will be covering a distance of between 7 to 10 miles using well marked routes and footpaths. Typically we will be crossing fields, open moor land and the ground maybe slippery under foot and muddy. We will have to negotiate stiles and small obstructions all of which are achievable with care. Sturdy suitable footwear is highly recommended for this walk, if in doubt about your footwear please contact the LargeOutdoors office for more advice.
Please note that the weather can affect the terrain under foot and it is essential that you check the weather forecast on the day and wear appropriate clothing. We recommend that you check out a specific mountain weather service such The Met Office, Mountain Weather Forecast.
Fully Guided:
This event is fully guided meaning there is a LargeOutdoors leader with you throughout the day. Everyone of our leaders is experienced in leading walks across all sorts of terrain along with being first aid qualified. However, you are also responsible for ensuring your own safety and carrying all essential and sometimes compulsory safety equipment. If you are new to LargeOutdoors and outdoor pursuits in general please do not feel that you have to go out and purchase all of the kit on the list. You would be better off attending some events and gaining the experience and talking to other members about what kind of kit you should purchase. Then slowly purchase the kit that suits your preferred event/s, skills, body and budget.
As a guide we have listed compulsory equipment that your leader will insist that you have before you continue with the activity below. However you should always attempt to bring all items with you including warm clothes, hats and gloves etc.
Compulsory Kit: There is no compulsory kit for this event, however please see out Kit lists for a list of what you should be bringing with you. In extreme weather the leader may refuse you entry to the event if you have not arrived with suitable clothing and equipment, this is for your own safety.
