Event Description:
The National 3 Peaks Challenge
Challenge yourself to climb the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales: Ben Nevis (1344m), Scafell Pike (978m) and Snowdon (1085m) all within 24 hours. With 480 miles on the road, 3000 metres of ascent and 26 miles of trekking this is one long, challenging and rewarding day.
Our challenge starts on Friday with a leisurely journey through the Scottish Highlands to Fort William. After a meal and briefing we’ll enjoy a final night in comfort before starting our ascent of Ben Nevis at 0700h Saturday. Once down, we immediately depart Fort William for The Lake District where we’ll start our climb of Scafell Pike at approximately 1830h, we’ll then drive through the night to Snowdonia, aiming to be over the finish line by 0745h.
The event is fully guided by qualified mountain guides who will ensure your safety and give you the best chance of completing this challenge.
Walk Level:
Challenge: By the very nature of these walks they are going to be a challenge, most walks will be over 15 miles long. However our long distance challenge walks are often via easy to navigate and well marked routes. The difficulty here comes from the distance travelled instead of any specific technical or difficult terrain. It is essential that you have well fitted and sturdy footwear. We also highly recommend you purchase a pair of good quality walking socks (preferably wool based). The staff here all rave about Icebreaker socks, good socks will be one of your best investments on a challange walk.
Please note that the weather can affect the terrain under foot and it is essential that you check the weather forecast on the day and wear appropriate clothing. We recommend that you check out a specific mountain weather service such The Met Office, Mountain Weather Forecast.

This event is fully guided meaning there is a LargeOutdoors leader with you throughout the day. As a group we will carry first aid kits, emergency shelters and any additional group safety equipment deemed necessary for this event. However, you are also responsible for ensuring your own safety and carrying all essential and sometimes compulsory safety equipment. Knowing what kit to have with you is essential for having a safe trip with LargeOutdoors. With this in mind we have compiled some kit lists to offer you some help and advice on what to pack.
If you are new to LargeOutdoors and outdoor pursuits in general please do not feel that you have to go out and purchase all of the kit on the list. You would be better off attending some events and gaining the experience and talking to other members about what kind of kit you should purchase. Then slowly purchase the kit that suits your preferred event/s, skills, body and budget.
As a guide we have listed compulsory equipment that your leader will insist that you have before you continue with the activity below. However you should always attempt to bring all items with you including warm clothes, hats and gloves etc.

These are compulsory, if you do not have either of these items with you, we will be unable to allow you to continue on the walk.
