Hill/Mountain Day Walk Kit List

The Hill and Mountain Environment is prone to drastic and sudden changes in weather as such it is essential to make sure you have the correct kit for these activities. Here at LargeOutdoors we are very strict on ensuring that both leaders and members have the correct kit whilst taking part in activities in the mountains and hills of the UK or whilst on one of our many International trips.

You will not be allowed to participate if you have not got the compulsory kit listed below. If you are unsure of either the kit or your personal fitness skill level to attend these events then please contact the leader directly.
Whilst packing your kit remember that the conditions in the mountains can be very different to the conditions where you live. You should pack for the worst case scenario and bear the following environmental considerations in mind:

Temperature decreases with altitude, at a rate of approximately 2-3°c per 300 metres height gained. In reality, what this means for the mountaineer is that the temperature on the mountain tops may be as much as 10°c lower than that at the valley floors, and when increased windchill is taken into consideration, winter temperatures may fall as low as -20°c. Precipitation on the other hand increases with altitude, and may be up to 300% greater than in neighbouring lowlands. It is always adviseable to check the weather before you set out.
