We catch up with this weekends guide...
This weekend I was working on the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge for Large Outdoors.
I travelled over Friday night. The weather was very wild with very heavy rain and strong winds. There was lots of flooding on the road along the way it wasn’t looking good for the walk on sat. 5am sat morning I was up getting ready for a 7am meet in Horton in Ribbersdale.
50+ people were due to turn up for the walk. By 7-30 we headed off with the first 31 participants. The weather was still very wet and miserable. We were doing Inglebough first.
The path up to it was flooded a lot of people thought was a river. We had to find our way across the limestone pavements which proved fun.
After about 3 hours we reached the summit which was shrouded in cloud.
We had the summit to ourselves. The trig point was quickly ticked then we headed off the summit as it was very windy and cold.
We made our way down to the road to our support car where we had cake and a very welcome hot drink. We split up into 3 groups here. I had the 3rd group at the back. Next we plodded up Whernside where again we were in the wind, rain and clouds.
After the long walk down to the viaduct we had our second rendezvous with the support car. Team all refreshed we headed up the road to our final summit. The rain had died off a bit by then which made a big difference.
On our way up we picked up a few injured walkers from the first team. They were both in pain but very determined to finish the walk. So we sent on the group and myself and the other leader stayed with the injured walkers and helped them complete the challenge.
Unfortunately they didn’t do it in the 12 hours but they were pleased to have finished it.
