Come with us to some of the best walking destinations in the Lake District over a weekend of moderate guided walks. We’ll take you out on two day walks around lakes, through woodlands, to secret views and lesser known trails.

The Lake District is renowned around the world as a walking destination. The walks will be out for the day, but we won’t be summiting the high mountains or doing anything technical; this is more about having a social walk and having a great day out.

Each set of walks is based from a particular village or town, where we know you’ll be able to find accommodation. Check the dates below to see where the weekend is based.

In a nutshell:

  • Enjoy two days of guided walks near to accommodation centres in the Lake District.
  • Discover more about the history of the area, spot wildlife, sample the local cafes and restaurants and see why Cumbria is so special.
  • Choose where you want to stay; there are options from luxury hotels to campsites!
  • Our walks will either be from the villages, or a bus-ride away. So you can forget about the car for the weekend.

What We’ll be Doing

There are a huge range of walking options for us to choose from in the area. Each morning we’ll meet up and your leader will make a decision depending on what the group feels like as well as the weather forecast.

In Keswick we could head to Derwent Water, or take one of the lower trails that wind up into the northern fells or the woods around Bassenthwaite. From Ambleside we might walk up the low hill of Wansfell Pike with its unrivalled views of Windermere, or take a look at the trails around Grasmere and Rydal Water. Around Glenridding we can head down to ‘England’s most beautiful lake’ of Ullswater, or take a walk up the dramatic valley leading to Grizedale Tarn.

If it’s a nice day, we could aim higher, taking in one of the lower local peaks, like Catbells, Loughrigg Fell or Place Fell. Whatever we do we know you’ll see something new and have a great day out.

About the Area

The Lake District has been famous as a walking destination ever since walking because a leisure activity! Written about by poets for hundreds of years, and will lots of hill-walks described by the legendary Wainwright, there’s a lifetime of adventure in the Lake District. Covered in woodlands, containing hills of all sorts of heights and trails of all sorts of difficulty, there really is something for everyone. And then of course there are the lakes themselves, all with excellent trails around them and often seen from the nearby slopes, shining in the sun, before we head to a tea room, never far away! The Lake District was made a UNECSO World Heritage site in 2017 in recognition of its exquisite landscape beauty and history.

What our members have to say...

  • Well, for a non-walker it was certainly challenging but my word was it exhilarating! The feeling of achievement after every day, was just fabulous. The group we went with were all strangers on day one, but firm friends by the end of the week. The comradery on some of the tougher walks, helped me to the top…..and wow what views. Anyone thinking of doing it - don’t worry….just go for it!

  • My first Large Outdoors and (Ulster & the Giant's Causeway Walking Weekend) Irish experience was absolutely fantastic. Everything was organised perfectly and Gareth is a joy to be around. I loved every minute and will definitely book myself onto another trip. #toldallmyfriendstheyhavetocome

  • “I didn’t really know what to expect on my first ever walking holiday and wasn’t very prepared if truth be known – lesson to all read the essential kit list especially waterproofs! It was great fun and what a lovely group of supportive and encouraging people, especially Gareth who did a great job looking after us all. I must admit at times I found it a bit challenging but what a great sense of achievement when we reached the top of the mountains (hills) I will definitely do this again.
