DurationSingle Day Event
Difficulty Level3 Three
What’s more as we are aware of the financial impact on many of you as a gesture of goodwill we are going to run these trips as close to cost as possible. Unfortunately we do need to charge as we only use qualified and professional staff who all work full time in the outdoors.
As we are just setting this up, there are not many details online just yet, but rest assured our Ops team will be working on this and posting more information and details on here over the next week.
Please note that as we work on logistics we might need to make minor adjustments for example routes maybe a little longer or shorter but we will always aim to recreate the trips as best we can.
We have seen a lot of comments about Paypal and recouping money, with us you can pay by credit card which does offer some level of protection. However, as we offer tours and holidays we have financial failure insurance as part of our compliance with the Package Travel Regulations, although to be clear the one day trips are not covered by this, it does show we have a rigorous financial base and have been trading for over 10 years.
Are we missing your challenge?
If you were booked on a trip or challenge not listed below then please drop the office an email and we can look to get it set up for you.
Large Outdoors only offer guided trips so for each of the below trips you will be guided around the route by a qualified, first aid trained mountain leader. We guide on a maximum ratio of 1:10. They will be with you every step of the way. Not only will they look after the navigation and general running of the walk but they are also there to offer emotional support and encouragement.
As we are trying to keep the cost down as much as possible we will not be including food or water, with each participant being expected to bring their own packed lunch etc.
Wye Valley Challenge – 23rd June
Our take on the Wye Valley challenge is a 60km circular walk starting and finishing in Monmouth. We’ll include a long stretch along the river Wye, as well as sections of Offa’s Dyke and the Forest of Dean. The route is also likely to include views of Symonds Yat and Tintern Abbey. There will be opportunities to drop out where it is possible to get public transport back to the start.
Meeting Point: Glendower Car Park () in Monmouth at 05:45am for an 06:00am start.
The event will be fully guided at a ration of 1 guide to 10 participants.
Yorkshire Three Peaks – Saturday 7th July
Normally £45 but for this date and Pure Challenge ex customers now just £25.
We are one of the largest providers of the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge and run walks most weekends. You can view full details on how we operate our Yorkshire Three Peaks Day Walk here… We also run it as a weekend package here…
We run a full schedule of Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenges with over 20 dates to choose from, so if you can’t make the 7th July do get in touch and we will see if we can fit you on to another trip.
Snowdonia 45km – 4th August:
Take on this fantastic marathon-length challenge in south Snowdonia, starting and finishing in the ancient town of Dolgellau. We’ll walk for 45km (just over 27 miles) around the iconic mountain of Cadair Idris, utilising the great network of paths and tracks to lead us through valleys and up over mountain passes. You’ll walk through woodland, down impressive glacial valleys, take in views over the Irish Sea, and finish along the famous Mawddach Trail, admiring the sands of the estuary. Although we do not summit the mountain itself, there is still over 1000m of ascent and descent on this walk.
This event will be fully guided, with a ratio of one walk leader per 10 participants. All walk leaders are qualified, and have outdoor first aid certificates. The walk is circular, so no public transport or driving is required during the walk. There are a few opportunities on route for those wishing to retire from the walk, but you are responsible for making your own way back to the start, and it should be noted that the challenge is relatively remote (advice will be given).
How difficult: The route is 45km (27.5 miles), with just over 1000m of ascent and descent. It will take a group of average fitness around 12-14 hours to complete.
Where to meet: 6:30am for a 6.45am start outside the Royal Ship Hotel in Dolgellau (LL40 1AR).
What to bring: Our standard kit list can be found here: Kit List. Please also remember to bring food for the day and 2 litres of water.

What our members have to say...
“I didn’t really know what to expect on my first ever walking holiday and wasn’t very prepared if truth be known – lesson to all read the essential kit list especially waterproofs! It was great fun and what a lovely group of supportive and encouraging people, especially Gareth who did a great job looking after us all. I must admit at times I found it a bit challenging but what a great sense of achievement when we reached the top of the mountains (hills) I will definitely do this again.ElizabethMember Since 2016
My first Large Outdoors and (Ulster & the Giant's Causeway Walking Weekend) Irish experience was absolutely fantastic. Everything was organised perfectly and Gareth is a joy to be around. I loved every minute and will definitely book myself onto another trip. #toldallmyfriendstheyhavetocomeVanessaMember Since 2018
Well, for a non-walker it was certainly challenging but my word was it exhilarating! The feeling of achievement after every day, was just fabulous. The group we went with were all strangers on day one, but firm friends by the end of the week. The comradery on some of the tougher walks, helped me to the top…..and wow what views. Anyone thinking of doing it - don’t worry….just go for it!ClaireMember Since 2016
