About Large Outdoors

Making Outdoor Adventures Sociable

Large Outdoors has been bringing people together outdoors since 2008.

We run guided walking holidays, short breaks and wild swimming trips across the UK, with one simple idea behind them: getting outdoors is better when it’s easy to join and there are good people to share it with.

Most people Join Large Outdoors on their own. Some are looking for new places to walk, some want a few days away without having to organise everything themselves, and others simply like the idea of joining a group rather than travelling alone.

Whatever brings you along, the aim is the same: relaxed, well-organised trips where you can settle in quickly and enjoy being part of the group.

Most People Come on Their Own

This is probably the most important thing to know about Large Outdoors.

You don't need a partner, a group of friends or somebody else who happens to be free on the same weekend.

Most people book on their own and meet everyone else when they arrive.

Walking makes getting to know people surprisingly easy. There’s time to chat as you go, stop for lunch together and relax over a drink or meal afterwards.

Some people make friends they go on to travel with again. Others simply enjoy being part of the group for a few days. There’s no pressure either way.

What We Do

Walking is at the heart of Large Outdoors.

Our trips range from two-night walking breaks to longer holidays exploring places such as Scotland, the Lake District, Yorkshire and the UK coast.

We also run wild swimming holidays and weekends for people who want to spend more time in the water as well as exploring outdoors.

Routes, accommodation and the day-to-day logistics are organised for you. On many trips we can collect you from a railway station too, making it possible to leave the car at home.

You choose the trip. We take care of the practical stuff.

Small Groups, Not a Crowd

We deliberately keep our groups manageable.

It makes it easier to get to know people, gives our guides more flexibility and creates the sort of atmosphere we want on a Large Outdoors trip.

Some holidays have just eight guests. Others are a little larger, particularly where we can offer different walking groups or grades.

Either way, we're not interested in putting as many people as possible onto a trip.

We've Been Doing This Since 2008

Large Outdoors started in Yorkshire in 2008 and we've been exploring the UK ever since.

Over the years we've walked thousands of miles, run trips from Cornwall to Shetland and welcomed a lot of people who arrived wondering what joining a group on their own would actually be like.

Many have since returned for another trip. And another.

We still believe in the same things: good walks, interesting places, friendly groups and getting the organisation right so everyone else can concentrate on enjoying themselves.

Who Joins Large Outdoors?

There isn't really a typical Large Outdoors guest.

You don't need to be super-fit or an experienced hillwalker. Our trips have different walking grades, so you can choose something that suits the kind of walking you enjoy.

What people generally have in common is that they want to get outdoors, explore somewhere interesting and do it with other people.

If that sounds like you, you'll probably fit in just fine.

Come and Join Large Outdoors

If you've been looking at one of our trips but wondering what it will be like to arrive on your own, you really won't be the only one.

Choose somewhere you'd like to explore, find a walking grade that suits you and we'll take it from there.
