Bringing the right kit is an important part of preparing for any Large Outdoors experience. Whether you’re joining us for a sociable walking weekend, a longer walking holiday, a wild swimming break, or one of our relaxed day walks, having the right clothing and equipment helps you stay comfortable, warm, and ready to enjoy your time outdoors.

Our trips take place across varied UK landscapes, and conditions can shift quickly. Good kit is about safety, but it’s also about your own comfort so you can enjoy the walking, the scenery, and the social side of the weekend without distraction.

What to Pack

Each kit list on our website is set out in two sections:

Compulsory Items
These are essential for taking part in the activity safely. Every participant must arrive with the compulsory items listed for their trip.

Recommended Kit
These items aren’t required, but they can make your day more comfortable. They’re based on what our guides and regular walkers find helpful on walking weekends, wild swimming trips, and walking holidays.

Your kit will vary depending on the type of experience you’re joining. For example, a low-level walking weekend in the Lake District, a coastal walking holiday, or a sociable wild swimming trip each have slightly different requirements, so please make sure to read the list that applies to your specific event.

Why Kit Matters
