Christmas Walking Holiday in Eryri (Snowdonia)

Join us for a festive five-night walking holiday based in Llanberis, in the heart of Eryri (Snowdonia). From 23rd–28th December, enjoy fully guided walks, hearty meals, and relaxed evenings in a sociable setting. We’ll explore a variety of routes, from tranquil valleys to scenic lakes and ancient woodlands – all led by expert Large Outdoors guides. With a mix of leisurely and leisurely plus routes (and one longer option), this short walking break is ideal for those looking to enjoy the outdoors and festive fun at a gentler pace.

On Christmas Day, we’ll enjoy a relaxed loop walk taking in Dolbadarn Castle and Llyn Padarn, followed by a full Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, including vegetarian and vegan options. Later, join us for festive games, optional Secret Santa fun, and our popular Xmas Jumper Competition with prizes up for grabs.

Dol Peris guesthouse offers the perfect base, with two lounges, a log burner, and a relaxed, sociable atmosphere. Whether you want to join all the walks, potter around Llanberis, or spend the afternoon with a book and a brew – this Christmas Walking Holiday offers a warm and welcoming break from the usual festive routine.

 

Suggested Itinerary

Here’s what we’ve got planned - of course, we may have to offer alternatives or make amendments if the weather misbehaves or other unexpected situations arise!

Please note: Some walks may require a short drive to the starting point; participants usually car share where possible.

  • Arrive at Dol Peris from 5pm and settle into your room. Your host will be ready with a warm welcome and a cuppa by the log burner. There’s time to meet the group, relax, and soak up the festive atmosphere.

    Dinner will be served at 8pm – a chance to unwind and get to know your fellow walkers ahead of a week of festive fun.

  • 10 miles

    This circular route takes us from Capel Curig through the peaceful Gwydir Forest Park. We’ll walk woodland paths and forest tracks to reach Llyn Geirionydd and then on to Llyn Crafnant, exploring a mix of lake shores, quarry remains and nature reserves.

  • 6 miles

    A shorter, scenic walk today right from the doorstep. We’ll wander through Llanberis village to explore Dolbadarn Castle and follow a loop along Llyn Padarn through woodlands and past the Slate Museum.

    Back at the guesthouse, we’ll take time to freshen up and prepare for a full Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings – including veggie and vegan options. We’ll also hold our much-loved Xmas Jumper Competition, with prizes on offer!

    Please bring along a small Secret Santa gift (up to £10) if you'd like to take part – it’s all just for fun and completely optional.

  • 7.5 miles

    After a short drive, we’ll begin with views of a peaceful reed lake before descending forest paths to Betws-y-Coed for a mid-walk coffee stop. The return leg brings us to the spectacular Swallow Falls, before a steady climb back to our starting point

  • 6 miles or optional 10 miles

    We’ll head to Beddgelert, one of Snowdonia’s most picturesque villages. From here we follow the Fisherman’s Path along the river and climb a scenic pass towards Llyn Dinas. For those keen for more, there’s an option to extend the walk through the Nantmor valley.

  • After a leisurely breakfast, we say our goodbyes and check out by 10am – with plenty of festive memories and a few new walking friends.

  • Dol Peris has two cosy lounges, giving you space to spread out, socialise, or find a quiet moment to yourself. Each evening includes relaxed social options like quizzes, games, and chats by the fire – but everything is optional.

    Prefer to unwind with a book or take a stroll to the pub? Absolutely fine. Want to join in with Christmas Jumper competitions or Secret Santa fun? You’re very welcome, but there’s no pressure. It’s your Christmas Walking Break – join in how you like.

    We’ll be running a festive mix of evening fun including Christmas Bingo, a Pub Quiz, and our popular Xmas Jumper Competition. There’s no pressure to take part – you can dip in and out as you wish, or simply curl up with a book and enjoy the cosy atmosphere.

    You can arrive any time from 5pm - the Large Outdoors host will be at the accommodation to welcome you.

    Dinner will be served around 8pm so if you intend to arrive later than this, please ensure you have something to eat on the way.

    Parking: There is free parking available at Dol Peris.

    Public Transport:
    The easiest way to get to Dol Peris on public transport is a train to Bangor and then the S2 bus from Bangor Train Station to Llanberis. Please check Christmas service/timetables before booking.

    Taxi: A taxi from Bangor Train Station to Llanberis can cost around £30.

    Please note: On some days there could be a short drive to the start of the walks, we don't include transport and people normally car share. 

    Finish Time: This experience ends after breakfast on Day 6. We need to check out of the accommodation by 10am.

  • We’ll be staying in the super cosy Dol Peris Guesthouse in the charming village of Llanberis, lying at the foot of Snowdon. The accommodation boasts a delightful lounge with comfortable sofas and a log burner, a dining area, and cosy bedrooms. There’s also a dedicated drying room for your walking gear in case we get caught in a shower.

    Bedding and a towel is provided.

    There are Shared Rooms, where you’ll be sharing a room - with single beds, no bunks) - with a maximum of three other participants (room sizes vary and bathrooms are shared).

    Single Rooms (bathrooms are shared with other rooms) are for one participant and have a single bed.

    Double/Twin Rooms (en-suite bathrooms) sleep up to two participants booking together.

    Sole Occupancy Double Rooms (en-suite bathrooms) are for one participant and have a double bed.

  • Included:

    • 5 nights’ accommodation at Dol Peris Guesthouse.

    • A Large Outdoors host/guide to welcome you, deal with meal preparation and the logistics for your experience.

    • Guided walks on 4 days (Days 2-5).

    • Home-cooked set 2-course dinners at the accommodation on each evening, with a few extra festive treats on Christmas Day!

    • A DIY breakfast each morning (toast, cereals, fruit and yoghurt provided).

    • A DIY packed lunch (sandwich and snacks) for the walks on Days 2-5. Please ensure you bring a lunch box or dry bag - to reduce waste, we do not supply cling film or sandwich bags.

    • Tea (including decaf and herbal options), coffee (including decaf option), and squash at the accommodation.

    • Bedding and a towel - but don’t forget your own toiletries.

    • The chance to make new friends and meet like-minded people - Large Outdoors is all about making outdoor adventures sociable.

    • Travel to and from the meeting location.

    • Travel from the accommodation to activity start points and back, where they don’t start from the door. On some days there could be a short drive required - we don't include transport and participants normally car share.

    • Any extra (i.e. not mentioned above in ‘Included’) excursions or activities that you may partake in which incur a cost.

    • Bottled water - tap water and squash are available at the accommodation, so please ensure you bring sufficient water bottles or carriers to fill up and take out with you.

    • Alcoholic drinks - please feel free to bring something with you to enjoy at the accommodation, or there’s a handy shop next door.

    • Any food, drinks or goods you choose to purchase at any shops, restaurant, pubs or cafés visited.

    • Travel/activity insurance - we recommend having insurance to cover, at a minimum: cancellation and curtailment; medical and emergency expenses (including repatriation); personal accident; injury and death.

  • • What level of fitness is needed?

    • Can I attend on my own?
    Absolutely. The majority of our participants are solo travellers and adventurers. Plenty of fun, laughter and numerous long-term friendships (and a few marriages!) have begun on Large Outdoors experiences since 2008, so there’s no need to feel worried about your first experience, or indeed trying a new type of outdoor activity, with us.

    • I am currently on a specific diet / have an allergy - can you cater for me?
    Unfortunately, we are generally unable to cater for a wide variety of diets or food preferences due to the nature and cost of our catered trips and/or the use of shared kitchens. However, we can offer vegetarian meals, vegan meals, provide meals with gluten* free ingredients, and/or provide dairy* free meals - these options can be selected when booking. *Please see our general FAQs for more information about dietary options.

    • What transport is provided during this experience?
    We do not provide any transport for this experience. On some days there could be a short drive required to activity start points and back, where they don’t start from the accommodation - participants normally car share.

    • Can I bring my dog?
    Dogs are not allowed on this experience, except for trained assistance dogs. If you wish to bring your trained assistance dog, please let us know in advance of booking so we can discuss the itinerary and any activity/equipment/accommodation, and of course additional safety requirements or considerations that may be necessary.

  • Encompassing the mountains, valleys, woodlands and much of the North Wales coast, the Snowdonia National Park is one of the best hill-walking destinations in the country. Though well known for its most famous mountain, Snowdon, there are a huge number of other peaks, standing beside sandy river estuaries, acres of forest, and landscapes cloaked in myth and legend.

    Walking on the miles of excellent trails, you’ll pass medieval castles, sites where King Arthur was rumoured to have fought, Roman forts, and the modern remains of the slate industry. Alongside all this, the area’s unique wildlife is yours to search out, before retiring to one of the many excellent pubs or cafes.

Booking FAQ’s

Can I book with a deposit?

Yes, if the trip is more than 12 weeks away you can secure your place with a 20% deposit. The balance is due no later than 10 weeks before travel. You will receive a series of reminder emails when the balance is due. If the trip is less than 12 weeks away, the full balance is due at the time of booking.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes – although our system doesn't have a function to do this automatically. If you'd like to split your payments, simply email us (hello@largeoutdoors.com) when you'd like to make a payment. Please don't forget to tell us how much you'd like to pay off the balance and your order number. We'll then send you an email with a secure online payment link.
