How do we grade our walks?

Suggested Itinerary

Day 1

You’re welcome to arrive at our accommodation for the weekend at any time after 5pm. You’ll meet your Large Outdoors host at our accommodation for the weekend. Your mission this evening is to shrug off the stresses of the week - you’re in relaxing mode now! Enjoy a glass of wine with your fellow walkers for the weekend and enjoy a hearty, home-cooked dinner prepared by your host.

Day 2

After breakfast and time to make packed lunches, we’ll head out on our day’s walk. We’ll be walking together for the day, and there’s some fantastic scenery right on the doorstep, so no need to drive. From Ilam, we’ll head into Dovedale, a steep-sided valley covered in woodland and surrounded by limestone cliffs and caves.

Our route is a gentle wander up the bottom of the valley alongside the river, admiring the scenery including the distinctive grassy hill of Thorpe Could and even a natural rock arch. Once through Dovedale, we’ll cross the fields on farmland tracks and head back to the bunkhouse with views of the River Manifold.

After a good day’s walking done, enjoy some free time back at our accommodation. Explore the beautiful grounds, and kick back with a cup of tea or glass of wine with your fellow walkers, reliving the day’s adventures. We’ll enjoy another lovely dinner together this evening too.

Day 3

After breakfast and checking out of the bunkhouse, it’s time for another walk. There are a few options for today, but one of the best is to drive over to the nearby village of Tissington. Here we’ll wander along an abandoned railway line, exploring the parkland of the old manor house, and perhaps taking in a short section of the Limestone Way, the area’s very own trail!

We finish the walk at around lunchtime and perhaps you might want to join your fellow participants and head to a local pub for lunch, or tearoom for a cuppa before heading home. We guarantee that you won’t want to leave after seeing this truly beautiful part of the country.

Please Note: On some days there could be a short drive required - where activities don’t start from the door of the accommodation. We don't include transport and participants normally car share.
