This is a sociable week of fully guided walking, with time each day to explore the food, stories and natural beauty of Mull. We’ll enjoy a mix of coastal walks, loch-side rambles, and visits to small islands, artists’ studios and local producers.
You’ll walk in the company of a professional guide and friendly host, with walks tailored to suit the weather and group. You’ll also have the chance to try a few off-the-beaten-track places many visitors never reach.
There’s no need to bring a car – we provide return travel from Glasgow, and once on the island, everything’s taken care of.
Why walk on the Isle of Mull?
The Isle of Mull is often described as Skye’s quieter cousin – and that’s no bad thing. It shares the dramatic headlands, rugged coastline, and rich wildlife of its larger neighbour but with fewer crowds and more space to slow down.
It’s a place of ancient stories and deep roots – from Iron Age hill forts to ruined crofts hidden in the hills. It was once home to the Lords of the Isles and today plays host to everything from whisky distilleries and boat builders to sea eagles and puffins.
Mull is also a stronghold for Scottish wildlife. With a bit of luck and patience, we’ll look out for white-tailed eagles, golden eagles, otters, seals, and (if the time’s right) puffins.
Arriving on Iona during our walking holiday to Mull.
Suggested Itinerary
Each day includes a fully guided walk, plus time for exploring, relaxing, or sampling local cafés and produce. The order of the itinerary may vary depending on weather and sea conditions.
-
We’ll collect you from Glasgow (city centre or airport) and drive to Oban where we’ll catch the ferry across to Mull. Depending on the ferry schedule, we may have time for a walk around Oban or a café stop before boarding. After arriving at Salen Pier House, we’ll settle in and enjoy our first evening together.
-
We’ll head out each day on a walk that gives a real sense of the island – its landscapes, wildlife, and stories. Possible routes include:
Loch Ba and Glen Clachaig – A low-level lochside walk with views of the hills and a real sense of remoteness. Excellent for spotting eagles.
Calgary Bay and Art in Nature Trail – A scenic beach walk with time to explore the local art trail and nearby craft shop and café.
Isle of Iona – Visit the famous holy island, explore the Abbey, and walk to the wild western beaches and up Dun I for panoramic views.
Isle of Ulva – A peaceful island just off Mull’s coast with beautiful walking trails, wildlife, and the ruins of long-abandoned settlements.
Ardmore Bay and Tobermory – Wild coastal walking followed by a visit to Tobermory’s colourful harbour, with its whisky distillery and seafood cafés.
Ardmeanach Peninsula – A dramatic coastal route with volcanic rock formations and views across the Ross of Mull.
-
Weather permitting, we’ll head out by boat to explore the Treshnish Isles – Staffa and Lunga. These remote islands offer a chance to experience one of the wildest corners of the Hebrides. Fingal’s Cave is a dramatic sight, and Lunga is known for its birdlife – with puffins nesting from April to July.
Even outside puffin season, this trip is still a fantastic opportunity to spot seals, other seabirds, and enjoy the thrill of travelling by boat through the Hebridean waters.
-
We’ll enjoy a leisurely start to the day with the chance to squeeze in a final short walk or visit before making our way to the ferry terminal. After catching the early afternoon sailing back to Oban, we’ll travel by minibus to Glasgow, aiming to arrive by early evening – traffic and ferry timings permitting.

New for 2026: Our New Home on the Isle of Mull
For 2026, we’ll be based at Salen Pier House, a cosy and welcoming cottage set right on the seashore of Mull’s east coast. With views stretching across the Sound of Mull, you can often spot otters, seals, and seabirds without even leaving the house.
This spacious self-catering property provides a comfortable base for the week, with a mix of single, twin, and double rooms available. There are shared sociable spaces to unwind in after a day out walking, and quiet corners to enjoy a book or simply watch the tide come and go.
It’s a brilliant spot to return to each day – peaceful, scenic, and just the right mix of homely and practical for our week of exploring the island.

Scotland has a bit of a reputation when it comes to midges – and yes, they can be annoying – but the good news is that they’re rarely a major issue on our trips.
Midge season typically runs from June to September, although you might come across them outside these months too. That said, even during peak season, most of our walking routes benefit from natural breezes which help keep them away.
Our top tips for avoiding midges:
– Where possible, we aim to stick to more open and breezy areas during walks
– Avoid standing still in shaded, sheltered spots – especially at dawn or dusk
– Use a good repellent – we recommend Smidge or Avon Skin So SoftWe’ll always do our best to plan routes that keep you comfortable so you can enjoy the experience – midges and all.
