Solo Walking Holidays & Sociable Walking Weekends in the UK

Travelling on your own doesn't mean you have to walk on your own.

Large Outdoors has been running sociable walking trips since 2008, and most people who book with us come on their own. Our guided walking holidays, weekends and short breaks are designed to make joining a group on your own feel straightforward.

You’ll have a Large Outdoors host, a small group to walk with and all the main arrangements taken care of. Many people make friends along the way too, keeping in touch long after the trip has finished, meeting up independently or coming back for another Large Outdoors trip together.

Why Our Trips Work Well for Solo Walkers

Most people who join Large Outdoors come on their own, so arriving solo is completely normal. We’ve been running sociable walking trips since 2008 and have learnt that a relaxed group, good organisation and a friendly host make all the difference.

Most people come solo
You’re unlikely to be the only person arriving without knowing anyone else.

Small, sociable groups
Keeping groups small makes it much easier to chat and get to know people naturally while walking.

Your host is there throughout
From introductions on arrival to organising the walking and practical details, your host is there to keep everything running smoothly.

Friendships often continue afterwards
We regularly see people who first met on a Large Outdoors trip returning together for another weekend or holiday.

What Can You Expect?

Booking your first group walking trip on your own can feel like quite a big step, particularly if you've never travelled with people you don't know before.

We'll give you clear information before you travel, including where to meet, what to bring and what to expect from the walking. For overnight trips, you'll also have information about your accommodation, meals and travel arrangements.

Once you arrive, your host will introduce the group and take care of the day-to-day organisation, leaving you to concentrate on the walking and enjoying your time away.

Our trips aren't about racing to the finish or proving how fast you can walk. Choose the walking grade that suits you, and you'll be part of a group walking together at a steady, sociable pace.

Walking Holidays for Singles – Are They the Same Thing?

Large Outdoors isn't a singles or dating holiday company. Our trips are simply designed to be easy to book when you're travelling solo – and most of our guests do exactly that.

You'll be walking and spending time with a small group of people who have chosen the same trip. Some people make friends they stay in touch with, some end up booking future trips together and, yes, we've even had a couple of relationships that eventually became weddings.

But there's no pressure for the trip to be anything other than a good walking holiday with a friendly group.

Stay Part of the Large Outdoors Community

The social side doesn't necessarily end when the trip does. Our Large Outdoors Community on Facebook community is a place to keep in touch, share photos, chat about previous trips and see what other Large Outdoors walkers are getting up to.
