Capel Curig and Llyn Crafnant

Our first full walking day took us to Capel Curig and around Llyn Crafnant. The route mixed woodland paths with easy lakeside walking, giving everyone time to settle into the week. As we headed back in the afternoon, the low winter sun lit up the valley and rounded off a great start to the trip.

Christmas Day – Llanberis, Llyn Padarn and Dolbadarn Castle

On Christmas Day we walked straight from the door, following the shores of Llyn Padarn and exploring the old slate workings above Llanberis. A steady climb took us up to Dolbadarn Castle for views across the lake before heading home for a proper Christmas lunch and a relaxed afternoon together.

Beddgelert and the Copper Mines

With more clear weather, we headed to Beddgelert for a classic circuit linking the old copper mines and the Fisherman’s Walk. The paths were quiet, the rivers were full, and the winter light gave the valley a real sense of calm. We finished with drinks in the village before another sociable evening back at the guest house.

Anglesey and Newborough Nature Reserve

For our final walking day we crossed to Anglesey and explored Newborough Forest and the coast out to Ynys Llanddwyn. Forest tracks, wide beaches and coastal paths gave us a very different side to the week and a relaxed finish before heading back for our final evening together.

Good walking, well-chosen routes, a welcoming group and a cosy guest house made this a Christmas break to remember. If you enjoy winter walking, sociable evenings and fully guided days in one of the UK’s best walking areas, Snowdonia is a great place to start.
