Exploring the Countryside Behind Watership Down
Our guided day walk takes us into the North Wessex Downs National Landscape, exploring the countryside that inspired Richard Adams' much-loved novel Watership Down.
Starting near Kingsclere, we'll follow a mixture of ancient tracks, open grassy hills and peaceful woodland paths, enjoying views across the rolling Hampshire countryside.
Along the way, we'll discover some of the real places and landscapes that feature in the story, as well as learning a little more about Richard Adams and his connections to the area.
You don't need to have read the book to enjoy the walk. It's a lovely opportunity to explore this part of Hampshire, with an interesting mixture of countryside, local history and literary connections.
Our circular route covers approximately 9 miles, and we'll walk at a relaxed, sociable pace, with time for photographs, a packed lunch and breaks along the way.
You'll be walking with an experienced Large Outdoors guide and a friendly group of up to 12 people. We'll finish back at our starting point, with the option of a café stop afterwards if time allows.
