Exploring Railway Heritage, Villages and Moorland
Our guided day walk takes us into the heart of the North York Moors, exploring the countryside around Goathland and Grosmont, two villages with strong connections to the area's railway history.
Goathland will be familiar to many as Aidensfield from the television series Heartbeat, while its traditional railway station also appeared as Hogsmeade in the first Harry Potter film.
Our planned route explores countryside paths around the villages, including sections associated with the original Whitby and Pickering Railway. We'll enjoy a mixture of woodland, valleys and open moorland, with opportunities to discover more about the area's railway heritage along the way.
We'll also spend time exploring Grosmont, one of the principal stations on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Although we may be lucky enough to see a heritage train, winter services are limited and cannot be guaranteed.
We'll walk at a comfortable group pace, with stops for photos, a packed lunch and time to enjoy the surroundings.
You'll be joining an experienced Large Outdoors guide and a friendly group of up to 12 walkers, with the opportunity for a café stop at the end, where possible.
