Peaceful New Year Walking Break – North York Moors

Looking for a quiet New Year away without parties, crowds or pressure to stay up until midnight? This four-night walking break is centred on relaxed days outdoors, evenings in local pubs and the company of a small group.

Based in Pickering, we’ll spend four days exploring the North York Moors and Yorkshire coast. Possible destinations include Whitby, Goathland, Grosmont, Rosedale, Rievaulx Abbey, Sutton Bank, Staithes and Bempton Cliffs, with the daily routes chosen to suit the winter weather.

There will be a maximum of eight people, and the trip is fully car-free once you arrive. On New Year’s Eve, we’ll enjoy dinner together before returning to the hotel. There is no organised party, late-night event or expectation to stay up for midnight. If you would prefer an early night so you are ready for the next day’s walk, that is absolutely fine.

A Quieter Way to Spend New Year

New Year can often feel as though it has to involve large crowds, expensive parties and staying up until midnight. This break offers a quieter alternative.

Our focus will be on making good use of the winter days. We’ll get outside for leisurely walks, explore villages and coastal towns, and return to Pickering for relaxed evenings over food and a drink.

The North York Moors gives us plenty of choice. We can walk through open moorland, wooded valleys and old railway landscapes or head to the coast for clifftop paths, fishing villages and time in Whitby.

On New Year’s Eve, we’ll have dinner together before returning to the hotel. You can stay up to see in the new year if you wish, but there will be no organised midnight celebration and no pressure to do so. The following morning, we’ll be heading out for another walk.

As it’s New Year we’ve upgraded everyone to a Premier Plus room, with a mini-fridge and complimentary water and snacks, an espresso coffee machine, faster Wi-Fi, a comfortable armchair and an upgraded rainfall shower.
