Gin, Walking & a Hampshire Countryside Escape
This weekend combines gentle walking with one of Hampshire’s most recognisable attractions — the Bombay Sapphire gin distillery. We’ll be based in comfortable accommodation with time to settle in and meet your fellow walkers before heading out on two guided routes through classic Hampshire scenery. Expect rolling fields, woodland paths and views linked to the landscape that inspired Watership Down.
The distillery visit adds something special to the weekend: a tour of the iconic glasshouses, a look at the botanicals used in their gin, a cocktail-mixing session and tastings along the way. Evenings are relaxed and sociable, with meals out and time to unwind together after a day on the paths.
This trip is designed for anyone who enjoys steady walking, friendly company and a weekend with a bit of variety — all with transport included so you can simply arrive and enjoy.
Suggested Itinerary
Here’s what we’ve planned for your car-free walking weekend (subject to change due to weather or logistics).
-
Check-in from 3pm. Meet your Large Outdoors host at 6pm in the hotel bar. If you arrive early you’re welcome to wander locally or relax in the bar. That evening we dine together (meal not included), giving everyone time to get to know one another.
-
After breakfast, we head off on a guided walk of around three hours through Hampshire countryside. Expect woods, parkland and paths near the River Test, plus the Watership Down countryside with its famous rabbit and rabbit-warren lore. A café stop will give time for tea and cake, then we’ll return to base, change and travel to the gin distillery. You’ll enjoy about three hours of distillery tour, glasshouse botanicals, cocktail mixing and a complimentary drink. Evening meal at a local pub (not included).
-
After breakfast, we check out and head out for our final guided walk around Watership Down’s rolling hills and open fields. The afternoon will finish with refreshments in a local café before departing around 15:00–16:00.
