What You Need to Know

Planning a trip with Large Outdoors is straightforward.

Here’s everything you need to know before booking and joining a trip, from how it works to what to expect on the day.

You can browse all upcoming trips and dates here: https://www.largeoutdoors.com/trip-calendar

Booking & Payments

Booking is done online through each trip page.

If you book more than 12 weeks in advance, you can secure your place with a 20% deposit, with the remaining balance due at 12 weeks.

For trips starting within 12 weeks, full payment is required at the time of booking.

We’ll send automatic reminders when your balance is due.

Accommodation & Rooms

Accommodation varies depending on the trip and can include hotels, guesthouses, hostels, bunkhouses, or cottages.

Rooms are usually shared (often twin rooms), with some trips offering single occupancy options.

Full details are shown on each trip page before booking.

Travel & Meeting Points

Each trip has a clear meeting location and time listed on the trip page.

Many trips offer a station pick-up option, making them easy to join without a car.

Once the trip begins, any required travel during the trip is usually included. For full details, check the individual trip page.

Some trips are designed to be joined without a car — you can view these here: https://www.largeoutdoors.com/car-free-trips

What to Bring

You’ll need suitable walking footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, and a small day bag.

A full kit list is sent before your trip, so you’ll know exactly what to pack.

Fitness & Expectations

Each trip includes guided walks, with terrain, pace, and overall effort explained on the trip page, along with a simple difficulty rating.

You don’t need to be an expert, but you should feel comfortable spending a full day outdoors on your feet.

If you’re unsure, it’s best to start with a shorter or easier trip.

Coming on Your Own

Most people join Large Outdoors on their own.

Trips are designed to be friendly and sociable, with small groups that make it easy to get to know others.
