A Warm and Sociable Christmas in the North York Moors

Spend Christmas in the company of a small, friendly group, with winter walks, plenty of good food and relaxed evenings around the fire.

This five-night Christmas break is based in a comfortable cottage in Goathland, right in the heart of the North York Moors National Park. With just 12 guests, it will feel like a proper group Christmas: welcoming and sociable, but never so busy that you cannot find a quiet corner when you want one.

Our days will be spent exploring the moors, wooded valleys and Yorkshire coast, with possible walks around Rosedale, Helmsley, Rievaulx, Sutton Bank, Whitby and Robin Hood’s Bay. Most walks will cover six to ten miles, giving us time to enjoy the winter landscape and, whenever we can, finish with a café stop or a well-earned drink in a local pub.

Back at the cottage, we’ll share evening meals before settling in for a relaxed night by the fire. You can have a glass of wine and a chat in the lounge, take part in some optional festive fun or simply find a quiet spot with a book. There is no pressure to do everything; this is your Christmas, and you can enjoy it in the way that feels right for you.

Christmas Day begins with a leisurely breakfast, followed by a shorter walk straight from the cottage door. When we return, your hosts will prepare a full Christmas dinner for everyone to enjoy together, followed by an evening of good company, drinks and an optional Secret Santa.

Most people come to Large Outdoors on their own, so you do not need to worry about arriving without knowing anybody. If you would like a Christmas filled with friendly faces, winter walking and the simple pleasure of sharing food around the table, Join Large Outdoors in Goathland this December.
