Discover Large Outdoors - Who We Are and What We Do
Welcome to Large Outdoors
Large Outdoors is a walking community built on the simple idea that exploring the UK is better when it’s shared. Since 2008, we’ve been bringing people together through guided walking holidays, weekends and short breaks, wild swimming trips, and car-free adventures across Britain.
Most people Join Large Outdoors on their own. What they often find is not just a great walk, but a friendly group, shared experiences, and connections that last well beyond the trip itself. Over the years, friendships have formed, walking buddies have kept in touch, and yes — a few couples who met on our trips have even gone on to get married.
Our trips are designed to feel welcoming from the moment you arrive, with small groups, steady walking, and plenty of time to talk, laugh, and enjoy being outdoors together.

Why Large Outdoors Stands Out
A Community, Not Just a Holiday
People don’t just walk with us once. Many return regularly, recognise familiar faces, and become part of a wider group that enjoys meeting up on trips throughout the year.
Expert Guides Who Bring People Together
Our qualified guides know the land inside out, but just as importantly, they’re great at creating a relaxed, inclusive group atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable.
Small Groups, Shared Experiences
Group sizes are kept manageable so conversation flows easily and no one feels left out. You might arrive solo, but you won’t walk alone.
Everything Organised, Nothing Overcomplicated
We take care of accommodation, meals, routes, transport (including many car-free options), and daily plans — leaving you free to enjoy the walking and the company.
Britain, Explored Together
From coastlines and islands to mountains and valleys, our trips focus on the UK’s National Parks and National Landscapes, experienced at a pace that allows time to take it all in.

What We Offer
Four to seven-night holidays based in scenic locations, with fully guided walks and time to enjoy both the walking and the places you’re staying.
Two or three-night walking breaks that fit easily into busy lives, designed to be sociable, relaxed, and easy to join.
Walking combined with supported wild swimming in lakes, rivers, and coastal locations, all run in small, friendly groups.
Many trips include station or airport pick-up and all local transport, making it easy to travel without a car.

The Large Outdoors Ethos
At Large Outdoors, we believe walking should feel friendly, inclusive, and straightforward. Our trips are built around good company, steady days outdoors, and the chance to explore new places without worrying about the logistics.
We focus on creating supportive group experiences where people can relax, chat, and enjoy being part of something shared. Whether you’re new to group walking or have been joining trips for years, you’ll be welcomed in the same way.
Accessibility matters to us. We offer clear trip grades, car-free options, and a wide range of experiences so people can try something new at a pace that suits them. Above all, our aim is simple: Making Outdoor Adventures Sociable.

The Benefits of Guided Small-Group Walking
Choosing a guided small-group trip takes the pressure off planning and decision-making. With an experienced guide leading the way, you don’t need to worry about navigation, timing, or route choices — it’s all taken care of.
Walking as part of a small group adds something extra. Conversation flows naturally, shared moments build connection, and the experience feels richer when it’s enjoyed together. Many people find this social side just as rewarding as the walking itself.
Small groups also allow guides to support everyone properly, adapt plans when needed, and make sure no one feels rushed or left behind.

Who Joins Our Adventures?
Adults aged 18+ who enjoy walking, meeting people, and spending time outdoors in a friendly, welcoming group. Most of our walkers are 40+, with ages ranging well into people’s 70s and 80s.
Many people join on their own, others come with friends or partners, but everyone is part of the same group once the walking starts. You don’t need to be an expert — just choose a trip that suits your level, bring a sense of curiosity, and Join Large Outdoors.
